Presentation: The Evolution of Jazz-Era Dance and Music

  • Cherry Hill Public Library 1100 Kings Highway North Cherry Hill, NJ, 08034 United States (map)

The Old City Sweethearts, Philadelphia's premiere vintage chorus girl dancers, present an evening focused on early jazz dance and jazz music in the United States, hosted by the Cherry Hill HIstorical Commission. The program will include a lively performance by the company, followed by an oral presentation describing the intertwined evolution of jazz dance and jazz music through the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, complete with examples of highlights of the era. To conclude, the Sweethearts will lead event-goers in a brief lesson on Charleston and improvised vernacular jazz dancing, and take to the dance floor with dancers both brand-new and experienced to end the evening!
